Science ToolboxesWelcome to the revised 5th- and 8th-grade Science Toolboxes. We have a recommended plan of action as you look at the first days of school. - Use the Pre-Assessment (based on the released MEAP 2005 items). This includes student test booklet, answer sheets, and analysis grid.
- Review results to determine weaknesses.
- Select lessons from the Life Science (9 lessons), Physical Science (10 lessons), and Earth Science (10 lessons) based on your students' needs.
Since the use of assessments of the same content as the state assessment is not appropriate ten school days prior to the state assessment, there is limited time during which teachers can review skills, strategies, and concepts previously taught. This plan of action will permit you to maximize learning with a minimum of time. In addition to the pre-assessment results, you can use the data from your school results from the Fall 2005 Science MEAP and your districts' curriculum sequence to determine which lessons would be best to review with your students. Included are Power Points of the released items practice assessment to use with the whole class to review test taking strategies and content. The Teacher Toolbox provides step-by-step directions and correct answers for the Student Journal. Use the Overview or Table of Contents from the Teacher Toolbox to decide which lessons to use with your students. We would love to hear your comments and give us feedback about these lessons so we can continue to improve them and make the toolboxes useful for you and your students.
