RESA offers Michigan Department of Education beginning and continuing education classes to prospective bus drivers. Classes are held at the RESA campus unless otherwise noted.

Michigan Department of Education Transportation Training Cycles

Beginning school bus driver training 

Persons interested in earning bus driver certification may complete the required 18 hours of instruction through RESA. Beginning driver training is held every 90 days.

Three-day classes
Classes are conducted from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day without a lunch break.

2019 dates:

  • August 5, 6 and 7
  • Nov. 12, 13 and 14

2020 dates:

  • Feb. 18, 19 and 20
  • May 19, 20 and 21

Continuing education training 

The RESA also offers ongoing training to bus drivers to maintain their certifications every two years. Drivers need six hours of training to retain certification. 
One-day classes
Classes are conducted from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Supervisor training

RESA offers training for transportation supervisors every two years. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. 

One-day class
Class is conducted from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
