Fingerprinting and background checking The Michigan School Safety Legislation that became effective January 1, 2006 requires all current or future school employees to be fingerprinted by July 1, 2008. It is the responsibility of each employee to be in compliance of this law prior to July 1, 2008. No person may be employed by any Michigan school district after July 1, 2008 who has failed to comply with this requirement.
