HoursDeer Run Trail

The main building is open Tuesday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Please call to check on specific days if you are planning a visit. Trails are open daily from dawn to dusk to the public. Trail maps are available outdoors.

 

Guided group tours are available to schools only.  However, groups are welcome to visit the main building and nature trails on their own. Fees are set for special uses of the building, including the private meeting room and deck/patio.

 

Now Open Select Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Directions to the Pine River Nature Center       

  • The Pine River Nature Center is at the center of St. Clair County,  close to I-69 and Lapeer Road (Old M-21).
  • The Pine River Nature Center is about 15 miles west of Port Huron.
  • It is on Castor Road, off Lapeer Road. Go south on Castor about a half-mile.
  • Look for the first driveway on your right after you cross the railroad tracks.

From Flint:

Take I-69 eastbound, exit at Wales Center Road and make a left. Then turn right (east) on Lapeer Road. Make a right (south) on Castor Road.

 

From Port Huron:

Take I-69 westbound, exit at Taylor Road and make a right. Make a left (west) on Lapeer Road. Drive about 3 miles west, then make a left (south) on Castor Road. Look for the Goodells County Park sign at the corner of Lapeer and Castor roads.

 

From Detroit:

Take 1-94 eastbound from Detroit. Take the westbound I-69 exit as you approach Port Huron. Follow I-69 westbound, exit at Taylor Road and make a right (north) on Taylor. Make a left (west) on Lapeer Road. Drive about 3 miles west, then make a left (south) on Castor Road. Look for the Goodells County Park sign at the corner of Lapeer and Castor roads.

 

Do's and Don'ts at the Pine River Nature Center

Help keep the Pine River Nature Center safe and beautiful

  • Do help keep this natural preserve just the way you found it.
  • Don't litter. Please put all trash into proper containers or in your pocket.
  • Do enjoy a snack or small picnic on the grounds of the center.
  • Don't start a ground fire or bring a grill to use.
  • Do take photographs of the scenery on the center's grounds.
  • Don't use firearms, weapons, fireworks or explosives.
  • Do take advantage of our parking lot.
  • Don't use motorized vehicles on the grounds. No cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs or snowmobiles may be driven beyond the main center parking lot.
  • Do enjoy walking, hiking or jogging along our trails.
  • Don't ride your bike or a horse on the trails.
  • Do watch and observe the wildlife at the center.
  • Don't hunt, trap, remove, release, feed or kill any of the wildlife.
  • Do please stop and smell the flowers.
  • Don't pick or remove wildflowers, plants, moss, rocks, tree limbs or leaves.
  • Do keep hydrated by using water or soft drinks in containers you carry with you.
  • Don't drink alcoholic beverages on the property.
  • Do breathe in the country air.
  • Don't smoke.
  • Do remember that wild animals are not pets.
  • Don't bring your pets to the nature center, including dogs, cats and horses.
  • Do look for side trails to explore.
  • Don't stray away from the trails.
