Reading Tips for Parents

Read aloud to your child daily and enjoy the experience!
Provide an environment that is rich with books and all kinds of reading materials, and let your child see you reading.
Give your child a wide variety of life experiences and discuss those events with them.
Allow for enriching experiences with people, places, and things that build on concepts and make stories familiar.
Keep paper and pencils or markers available for your child to draw, write, and create.
Let your child see you writing, and ask them to help with such things as cards, labels or grocery lists.
Take your child to the book store or library, and help them get their own library card.
Appreciate your child's interests, and help them choose books according to those interests.
Provide the appropriate books at the right time. Provide the most supportive environment possible.
