Public Safety
Students will study and explore a variety of Public Safety occupations and will develop a comprehensive understanding of the Public Safety field. Students will build skills in five Public Safety Career Pathways: - Corrections services
- Emergency and fire management services
- Law enforcement services
- Legal services
- Security and protective services
All students must complete training in all five areas. Special emphasis will be placed on the Emergency and Fire Management Services and Law Enforcement pathways. Students will spend the majority of their instructional and training time in these two Pathways.
Specific areas of study include: Emergency and fire management services - First aid/CPR
- Principles of fire control and fire science
- Proper ladder use and ventilation techniques
- Search techniques and victim extrication
- Use and maintenance of fire and rescue equipment
Law enforcement - Basic forensics
- Crime scene investigation
- Criminal and civil law
- Defensive tactics and arrest procedures
- Report writing and accident investigation
- Search and seizure procedures
All students must wear Public Safety uniforms on Mondays and Fridays throughout the school year. Students will be involved in physically demanding activities. Physical fitness and agility are important for success in this program.
Please Note: All students must enter this program as high school juniors.
