Public Safety I students with firehose

In the Public Safety program taught through the Public Safety Academy, students will study and explore a variety of public safety occupations.

The academy is in the St. Clair TEC building on the RESA campus, 499 Range Road, Marysville.

Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the public safety field. Students will build skills in five Public Safety Career Pathways:

  • Corrections services
  • Emergency and fire management services
  • Security and protective services
  • Law enforcement services
  • Legal services

All students must complete training in all five areas. Special emphasis will be placed on the Emergency and Fire Management Services and Law Enforcement pathways. Students will spend the majority of their instructional and training time in these two pathways.

In addition, students must demonstrate successful completion of foundation skills training in these areas:

  • Communications
  • Problem solving and critical thinking
  • Technology applications
  • Safety, health, and the environment
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Ethics and legal responsibilities
  • Employability and career development

All students must wear public safety uniforms on Mondays and Fridays throughout the school year. Students will be involved in physically demanding activities. Physical fitness and agility are important for success in this program.

ALL STUDENTS MUST ENTER THIS PROGRAM
AS HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS.

The Public Safety Program is designed to give high school students the opportunity to participate in the Human Services Career Pathway.
