Energy Technologies & Services

Energy Technologies & Services is a new program that integrates the core concepts of electronics into hands-on applications involving renewable energy and digital home technology.

The Energy Technologies & Services Program offers three courses of study:

  • Electronics Core
  • Digital Home Technology
  • Renewable Energy

Electronics Core: All students will complete the Electronics Core which includes studies in AC/DC theory, analog, digital and electronic circuits. The Electronics Core will be taught using computer-based software that incorporates theory presentations, multimedia instruction, and practical hands-on training activities.

Digital Home Technology: After completing electronics core studies, students will take the Digital Home Technology course and will study HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning) control systems, residential and business security and alarm system installation/maintenance, audio and video system installation, and facilities maintenance.  Students who successfully complete this course may earn industrial certification as a Digital Home Technology Integrator (DHTI).

Renewable Energy: Most second year students will take a Renewable Energy course and will study wind turbines, solar panels, and micro-hydroelectric turbines. Wind turbines and solar panels, located on the RESA campus and at other community locations, will be monitored to assess energy production and the impact of the weather on energy production.

Employer-based options: Second year students also have the option of taking one of two Employer-based programs following the completion of the Electronics Core and Digital Home Technology courses. Students may request placement in Facilities Maintenance or HVAC. Descriptions of these programs are available on the Employer-Based Program page.
