Hospitality Academy 

The Culinary Arts program offers training to students aspiring to be chefs, bakers or caterers. Students are trained in food preparation and hospitality in a commercial kitchen that operates and manages a professional catering business. Instruction is provided in a variety of cooking and baking techniques while preparing staff and student meals, banquets and business luncheons.

    

Students will become proficient in kitchen safety, sanitation, the use of commercial food service equipment and commercial kitchen orientation.

    

Specific areas of study include:

  • Attending hot and cold buffet
  • Cashier
  • Cooking techniques
  • Counter attendant
  • Customer service
  • Garnishing
  • Host/hostess
  • Preparing a variety of baked goods, pastries, pies, cakes, cookies, puff pastries, baked fruits and specialty desserts
  • Preparing appetizers
  • Preparing deli trays 
  • Salad preparation
  • Sandwich preparation 

 

Please Note: Students must be prepared to practice the highest level of hygiene and sanitation when handling food. Long fingernails are NOT permitted. Chef’s jackets, aprons and hats are provided. Students are responsible for appropriate footwear that meets safety standards.

Advanced training
and education

Although students may obtain on-the-job training through entry-level employment, it is recommended that students seek formal advanced education through American Culinary Federation Apprenticeships, two- and four-year college programs, culinary institutes and the National Restaurant Association.
