The Cosmetology Program taught through the Academy of Style requires students to complete 1,500 hours of training, which includes Saturday attendance and eight weeks during the summer. The goal of the program is to prepare students to pass the Michigan State Board Examination to become a licensed cosmetologist.

 

The Academy of Style building is at 1100 Michigan Ave., Marysville.

 

Students begin their training in the classroom where they will study:

  • Theory of bacteriology
  • Chemistry
  • Sterilization/sanitation
  • Treatment of the scalp
  • Diseases of hair and skin
  • Hair anatomy/physiology
  • Head/face/neck anatomy and physiology
  • Theory of electricity (electrotherapy)
  • Michigan law
  • Communication

In the training lab, students practice techniques on mannequins. After 350 hours in the classroom and lab, students are approved for advanced training on the “floor” working on actual customers.

 

Please Note: This is a state certified program of instruction. 1,500 hours of attendance is mandatory. Student are responsible for their transportation on Saturdays, during the summer, and throughout their senior year.

 

ALL STUDENTS MUST ENTER THIS PROGRAM
AS HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS.

All students will be supplied with a cosmetology kit, which remains the property of St. Clair TEC.


Cosmetology Program Salon services include:

  • Hairstyling: Shampoo and style, updo
  • Haircut: Adults and children
  • Hair and scalp treatment: Clarifying, reconditioning
  • Bleach and color: High/low lights
  • Spiral permanents
  • Makeover: Make-up, manicure and style
  • Facials: Eyebrow wax, facial tweezing
  • Nails: Gel, sculpted tips, wraps, pedicures

The Cosmetology Program is designed to give high school students the opportunity to participate in the Human Services Career Pathway.
