Business, Management and AdministrationBusiness, Management and Administration students are introduced to the business world through the use of word processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation software. Students will become proficient in the use of this software as it relates to a wide variety of businesses such as insurance, banking, manufacturing, automotive, government and small business. Students will have the opportunity to prepare for Microsoft Office Specialist Certification, a nationally recognized certification.
Specific areas of study include:
Information Processing Clerk: This course is designed to teach skills in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation management, database and e-mail programs. Students will learn to create, enter data, edit and format documents, spreadsheets, databases and electronic presentations. Students will access information on the Internet, electronically schedule appointments and tasks and send e-mail. Students will learn to scan, file, retrieve, update and delete documents and images. Students will also learn proper use of office machines such as the computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, copier and shredder. Students successfully completing this course will be eligible for TEC certification and may continue in either the Certified Application Specialist or Finance Clerk courses.
Finance Clerk: Students interested in finance will learn concepts such as calculating payroll, property taxes, discounts, markdowns, interest, mortgages and depreciation. Students successfully completing this course will be eligible for TEC certification and may continue in the Computer Application Specialist course. Computer Application Specialist: This course is designed to teach advanced concepts for word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications, including mail merges, tables, charts, data consolidation, and software integration. Students successfully completing this course will be eligible for TEC certification and will be encouraged to take the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist test. Students who pass this test earn the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist national credential.
Please Note: Basic keyboarding skills are recommended before enrollment. Students sit at their workstations for long periods of time focusing on various assignments. The work is primarily sedentary in nature.
